François-Auguste-René Rodin was born on November 12, 1840 in Paris, France and is one of the best known sculptors ever. His artwork was the beginning of a new century of sculptures and prepared the way of the century of Modern Art. Auguste Rodin is called a pioneer of Modernism. After the “Ecole nationale supérieure des beaux-arts de Paris“ refused him to study at this institution, he went to the “École des Arts Décoratifs”. The whole artwork of A. Rodin was influenced by Rodins admiration of the human body and its shape. And many of his sculptures were shaped with a smooth surface. The “Gates of Hell”, an unfinished portal, is mentioned as his most important work and many of the small figures of the gate become single sculptures like the well-know sculpture “The Thinker” or “The Kiss”. The great artist François-Auguste-René Rodin died on November 17, 1917 in Meudon, France.
