This very famous sculpture is called “Inclined Head of a Woman” and an extract of one of Wilhelm Lehmbruck’s other sculptures, the so-called “Kneeling Woman” – this is why this bust is also called the “Bust of the Kneeling”. It is made of 100% bronze and signed by the artist Wilhelm Lehmbruck. As many of his art works, this sculpture is rather melancholic and very naturalistic. The portrayed woman seems to be thinking about lost past things or worrying about the future. This is why this bust perfectly fits into every private library where it emits calm and peace.
As all of the bronze products in our shop, this exhibit is hand-cast in our own foundry and subject to our strict quality inspections throughout the entire process of fabrication. All of our sculptures are exclusively compounded with the help of lost-wax casting.
Wilhelm Lehmbruck was born on January 4, 1881 in Meiderich and died on March 25, 1919 in Berlin. He was promoted by his teachers from a very young age on, which is why he was able to attend the Arts College as well as the Academy of Arts in Düsseldorf. In his naturalistic and expressionistic works, Wilhelm Lehmbruck mostly addresses sorrow and misery. This is due to his experiences during World War II in a German military hospital. Wilhelm Lehmbruck has exhibited many times in various cities throughout Europe. The work of Lehmbruck is exhibited in many famous museums like the National Gallery of Art, the Tate Gallery, the Lehmbruck Museum in Germany and the very famous Museum of Modern Art in New York.
