This very famous Art Nouveau sculpture was made by the great American sculptor Harriet Whitney Frishmuth in 1923. "The Vine" portrays an elegant naked woman holding a tendril of vine in her hands. It can almost be described as an embrace – a symbiosis of nature and humanity. The very fine lines of this adorable graceful figurine underline the peaceful and harmonic atmosphere, that surrounds this bronze. It is set on a green marble base, that rounds off the naturalistic impression of this wonderful masterpiece. The amazing Art Nouveau sculpture is made of 100% bronze and dark polished marble and also contains the signature of H. Frishmuth at the bottom.
The American sculptor and artist Harriet Whitney Frishmuth, who created this absolute graceful Art Nouveau figure, was born on September 17, 1880 in Philadelphia. She had attended many different renowned universities such as the French École des Beaux-Arts in Paris or the Art Students League of New York City. Over the years, she has created many unique pieces of art, but also many functional everyday objects. Frishmuth’sworks are exhibited in many different places – for example in the National Academy of Design or the Academy of Fine Arts in Philadelphia. She died at the age of 100 in Connecticut and is buried at Laurel Hill Cemetery in Philadelphia.
