Product description
"Modern Art Sculpture - Mother with Child, sign. Käthe Kollwitz"
Weight | 6,9 kg |
The Modern Art Sculpture “Mother with Child” was created after an artwork of the German female sculptor Käthe Kollwitz (* July 8, 1867 in Prussia; † April 22, in Moritzburg near Dresden). “Mother with Child” was made after a lithographic design Kollwitz made in 1916. This sculpture is an abstract portray of the original and made of 100% finest bronze. It was affixed on a marble base and is impressive because of the way of processing and of the way the mother and her child got portrayed. While the abstract faces of the two human beings are easily visible, the rest of the figure is very abstract and designed with an irregular surface. “Mother with Child” is an image of intimacy between a mother and a child and was signed.
As all of the bronze products in our shop, this exhibit is hand-cast in our own foundry and subject to our strict quality inspections throughout the entire process of fabrication. All of our sculptures are exclusively compounded with the help of lost-wax casting.

Käthe Kollwitz was born on July 8, 1867 in Prussia as Käthe Schmidt and became one of the best known female artists of the 20th century. Kollwitz created several wood carvings, copperplates, lithographic designs, etchings and some sculptures. Her style as sculptor reminds at the work of the German sculptor Ernst Barlach but is known as timeless. Besides working as an artist Kollwitz was the first female member of the Prussian Art Academy and was announced as first female professor of the Academy. Furthermore she was a member of the Berlin Secession from 1901 until 1913. During this time she also started to create sculptures. In 1933 she was supposed to leave the Prussian Academy because she supported the so-called “Urgent Appeal” of 1932. Käthe Kollwitz died before the ending of World War II on April 22, 1945 in Moritzburg near Dresden.
