The sculpture „The doubter“ was created in 1931 by Ernst Barlach. This work is also known as “The blind person” in his graphics. This sculpture, which has the signature of the artist Ernst Barlach, shows the instability and the desperation of the person. The old man stands dejectedly at his place with constricted hands. His eyes are probably closed. It’s not relevant, if this man is able to see or not. According to Ernst Barlach, a blind person can also see the veracities in life. This valuable sculpture is made of 100 per cent bronze.
The artist Ernst Barlach, who was born on January 2, 1870 in Wedel, was the oldest child of four sons.
