Modern Bronze Figure - Karyatide - signed Amedeo Modigliani

The „Karyatide“ is based on a draft by Amedeo Modigliani, which was originated between the years 1913 and 1915. The concept comes from the architecture and describes sculptures, which replaces pillars of a building. In this sense these figures shall carry a load and Amedeo Modigliani transfers this meaning on his female nude. From 1910 to 1913 he used this theme again and again for his paintings and sculptures. The figure, which was made of 100 percent bronze, seems on one side dynamically and on other side statically. This tension between liberty and obligation, something to do, is expressed in this motif. Elongated forms belong to the typical characteristics of Amedeo Modigliani, whose signature is to see on the bronze figure. A flat marble base provides the sculpture with the necessary stability.

Our bronze sculptures are made using the lost-wax technique. All objects are cast by hand and are made under strict quality instructions.

The artist Amedeo Modigliani was born on July 12 in 1884 in Italian Livorno as the fourth child of his parents Eugenia and Flaminio Modigliani. Since 1898 he visited the school of painting, which was led by the painter Guglielmo Micheli. This artistic education followed the impressionism. At the same time he visited the artist Gino Romiti, where he studied nude painting. His life was hard because of many lung diseases until he died through tuberculosis on January 25, 1920 in Paris at the age of 35 years. From 1909 to 1914 the artist worked mainly in field of sculpture. Repeatedly Amedeo Modigliani illustrated humans in sculptures and paintings, in which you can find Ocean and African influences.
