The bronze figure on the left carries the name "Leda and Swan" and is a work which is originated in the time of the Vienna bronze. It deals with the subject of Greek mythology. According to the myth, Leda is the the daughter of the Aetolian king Thestios and Eurythemis and was the wife of the Spartan king Tyndareus. Leda and Swan are a popular motif in painting, for example in the art work of Michelangelo, as well as in sculpturing. Zeus disguised himself as a swan and seduced Leda; they sired the twins Castor and Pollux. The two are a symbol of the meeting between gods and human, between the queen Leda and the godfather Zeus. The sculpture is hallmarked with the stamp of the famous Bergmann foundry.
