Animal Sculpture - Owl - sign. François Pompon - Real Bronze

This small bronze owl is modeled after the work "Petite Chouette", a small owl figur by French sculptor François Pompon. Characterized by a minimalistic style, the sculpture is reduced to simple yet sophisticated perfection. This kind of design, concentrating on the most basic features, is typical for Pompon’s owl and adds a classic and elegant air  to the animal cast. The bronze sculpture also bears the signature of artist François Pompon.

As all of the bronze products in our shop, this exhibit is hand-cast in our own foundry and subject to our strict quality inspections throughout the entire process of fabrication. All of our sculptures are exclusively manufactured with the help of lost-wax casting.

François Pompon (1855-1933) was a French sculptor. Beginning in 1870 he studied under the famous artist Pierre Louis Rouillard at the École Nationale Supérieure des Arts Décoratifs in Paris. Later he worked as an assistans to artistic mastermind Auguste Rodin. He became famous for his stylized animals such as "L'Ours Blanc" -  “The White Bear”, also known as "Polar Bear in Stride", a huge marble sculpture, in 1922. The original is located at the Musée d'Orsay in Paris. François Pompon may be considered as a pioneer of modern sculpture as well as an important influence on sculptors such as Constantin Brâncuși, among others.
