"Bronze Statue - Ape with Skull - Wolfgang Hugo Rheinhold "
Weight | 2,5 kg |
This sculpture is a homage to the "Ape with Skull" also known as “Philosophizing Monkey” by Wolfgang Hugo Rheinhold. The philosopher and sculptor Wolfgang Hugo Rheinhold has transformed the heated debate about the work of the British naturalist Charles Darwin in a three-dimensional art piece. The sculpture depicts a chimpanzee sitting on a pile of books and looking at a human skull. It was created in 1892 and is Rheinhold’s most famous work. The "Ape with Skull" was first shown in 1893 at the Great Berlin Art Exhibition. The monkey includes diverse allusions to Shakespeare's "Hamlet" and Rodin's "Thinker" as well as circulating Darwin cartoons. The sculpture is signed by Milo and mounted on a circular marble base.
