The „character heads” of Franz Xaver Messerschmidt are the touching result of a relentless individual search. The head on the left with the tongue sticking out is probably a self-portrait of the artist. Messerschmidt presents himself as someone who “shows the tongue to the world”. Due to a great interest for physiognomy and under the influence of delusions, he created his series of 60 busts of alabaster and tin, which are commonly referred to as "character heads" and "studies of heads".

The product is poured like all our products by hand and was made using the lost wax method, which guarantees a high degree of dimensional accuracy and surface quality. The production is subject to our strict quality guidelines.

Franz Xaver Messerschmidt (1736-1783) was an artist who was particularly known for his portrait sculptures. His works are located between baroque and classicism. His fame is based in particular on his character heads. Messerschmidt himself called them only "heads". Shown are all kinds of physiognomic conditions, including a variety of grotesque grimaces.
