Hopeful and courageous, the maiden holds onto the horns of the faun, in the full knowledge that she is being taken to his love nest. This prospect puts a passionate gaze on her face, while the faun takes large steps with his delicately shaped goat legs in order to get to his destination faster. This figure originates from the Viennese Bergmann foundry and was punched with its seal. The erotic figurine stands on a black marble base.

Franz Bergmann, the founder of the famous bronze foundry in Vienna, was born in 1838 in Gablonz. First, he worked as the aide of a girdler, but he soon moved to Vienna to learn professional bronze casting from Josef Ott. Franz Bergmann passed his examination for the master chaser's diploma in 1860. In 1884, he visited the world exhibition in Paris and got to know France's bronze art. The art of a natural patina fascinated and inspired him, which led to him wanting to create bronze figurines himself. He founded the Bergmann foundry, which became a big success. The characteristic erotic nudes and animal figurines are immensely popular collector's items.
