Franz Bergmann, the founder of the famous bronze foundry in Vienna, was born in 1838 in Gablonz. First, he worked as the aide of a girdler. However, he was not that happy with his work, that is why he moved to Vienna and learned the art of professional bronze casting from Josef Ott. Franz Bergmann passed his examination for the master chaser's diploma in 1860. In 1884, he visited the world exhibition in Paris and got to know France's bronze art. The art of a natural patina fascinated and inspired him, which led to him wanting to create bronze figurines himself. The Bergmann foundry in Vienna then became very successful. The characteristic erotic nudes and animal figurines from this foundry are immensely popular collector's items.
