This Vienna Bronze Band of Cats is definitely not a depiction of the proverbial lamenting cats. With their drum, violin, flute, saxophone and harp, this ensemble of six cats shows of their musical talents. The elegantly dressed bronze cats have been elaborately made and painted by hand, which means that every one of the six figurines has been designed and refined individually. Humanised animal figures became popular for the first time at the beginning of the 20th century, and they have not lost their appeal to this day. In the more than 80 Viennese bronze manufactories, dogs, cats, frogs and pigs became the main motif for the bronze works. Just as they were during that time, they are still welcome guests in the cupboards and display cases of many collectors and art enthusiasts.
