Walking Panther (1904) - Signed Bugatti - Bronze Animal Figurine

In 1904, the Italian sculptor Rembrandt Bugatti designed his bronze figurine Walking Panther (Panthère marchant). The sculpture seamlessly fits into the artist’s overall work, which encompasses more than 300 statues. From an early age on, Bugatti specialised in the authentic depiction of exotic animals, which he studied in Paris’ Jardin de Plantes. Stylistically, the young sculptor worked outside of the conventional mechanisms of idealisation. For Bugatti, every animal was an individual being, which is why he always tried to capture the unique characteristics of the respective animals. Walking Panther is one of his most famous sculptures. This signed animal figurine is placed on a coloured marble base, which skilfully highlights the walking panther figurine. Authentic proportions and the natural dynamic of the motif create an impressive snapshot of this bronze feline predator. One of the first gypsum models of this animal sculpture can be found in the Musée d’Orsay in Paris.
