The artistic heritage of Rembrandt Bugatti is often compared to a bestiary. It includes more than 300 animal sculptures and depicts both regional and exotic animal species. Bugatti studied those animals in Paris’ Jardin de Plantes. His distinct observational skills and empathy towards the portrayed subjects completely redefined the modern animal sculpture. This bronze sculpture shows a walking gorilla that was placed on a discreet marble base. The signed bronze figurine is limited to 20 pieces and serially numbered. A dominant body language is combined with almost cubistic, authentic proportions and a delicately designed face. The sculpture is almost like a snapshot that seems to show the animal in its natural habitat.
Our bronze figurines and sculptures are produced via the so-called lost wax technique. Constant quality inspections and the fact that all of our products are refined by hand ensure the high quality of our bronze pieces.
Rembrandt Bugatti (1884 - 1916) was an Italian artist who specialised in the depiction of animals from an early age on. Numerous visits to the Parisian zoo inspired the sculptor, and his authentic animal figurines are immensely popular amongst collectors. In total, Rembrandt Bugatti created more than 300 animal sculptures during his short life. He took his own life in 1916, at the young age of 31.
